You can adapt a wheel speed sensor from anti-lock brake system. The
sensors are cheap at the U-Pull-It type yard and there are a lot of
different ones to choose from. Or just grab a crank position sensor from
a car equipped with EDIS.

check out the motorcycle jy ...

The Kawasaki Concours (ZG1000) has two VR sensors for the crank pickup. They've been in production since the mid 80's, there are plenty out there.

Escorts with 1.9 engine. Go in through righthand wheelwell. You will need a T27 torks bit and if you take a 19mm you can get the timing gear too.

You can get a 1.9 Escort VRS at an auto parts store for about $15. I think I got one for a 91'. To me its not worth the touble to go to a yard for a $15 part thats a pain in the behind to get off. If you want to pick up other stuff like injectors and connectors at the same time it might be worth it, but junk yard parts are always a crap shoot.

I got mine off a Ford Exploder 91-on has v6 or v8 with EDIS. The VR sensor is easy to get, as well as the V6 or V8 EDIS module mounted on the right side of the radiator core support, in front of the battery tray.

I know it's an old post, but

I found that all EJ series subaru engines have a VR sensor on the front of the crank, which is very easy to access/remove. I'm using on on my bmw e30 325i ms conversion.
BMW, 1985, E30, 325i, 2-door, 5spd. Lots of custom work. Turbo build in progress: http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55733
