Air temp sensor placement

Post by Captain Midnight »

After drilling and tappng for air temp sensor, in my motorcycle intake manifold, I noticed the sensor may be sprayed by the injectors. Will that mess up its performance?

My guess would be yes, and the reason being that the fuel temp will most likely be different from the air temp. Also, as the fuel evaporates off the temp sensor, it will cool it off. I'd plug the hole you made and see if you can move the sensor further upstream.

I welded in the hole and moved the sensor to the inlet side of the butterfly. This is still downstream of the turbocharger and water injector. I'm using a plastic bulb type sensor. Would an open type sensor be a better choise? This is a single cylinder motorcycle motor. The intake is quite short.

is there any kind of repercussions for putting the air temp sensor in the intake pipe (before the air filter) rather than on the intake manifold?

Mine is in the charge pipe between the turbo and the TB.
