TBI with progressive linkage - what is the issue with MSII?

Post by mutley_770 »

I have read a few posts that indicate there's problems with MSII and TBIs with a progressive linkage - but when I searched I couldn't find specifics.

I have a dual plenum 4bbl manifold on a Hemi 265 straight six and as they are cheap I am thinking of setting up two 2bbl TBIs for each side of the manifold as they flow 360cfm each. I just bought one for 99c, so you can see why I'm keen to try them out. The TBIs in question have progressive secondary butterflies and the TPS runs off the primary butterfly shaft.

So what problems will I run into? As far as I see it, all that matters is my v3 MSII will see a throttle position, and the MAP sensor takes car of the rest. Is the problem something to do with how you program accel enrichment with a non-linear throttle opening.. and can this be fudged? Or am I missing something, I know I can take a simplistic view on things... :)

cheers
Adrian

I am sure it will work fine as you are using map not tps for most of the tuning. I hope lol ! As I am build a 4 throtle body progresive set up for my car with a wild cam as well. I say go for it and keep me informed.

Well I just received my 99c TPI (or CPI as Ford call it) in the mail and it's a great little unit. Even better, to my surprise it actually has 1:1 opening butterflies... sorry for wasting everyone's time.

It looks to be relatively easy to remove the linkage from one and join the throttle shafts across - to have them ganged together as a 4bbl. Will be fairly compact too, smaller than what a Holley Pro-Jection / GM TBI looks like.

Lance do you have pics of your dual corvette arrangement, sounds cool! Nothing better than sidedraughts :)

Nanaimo. . . . . . Hmmm, that's only about 5 hours drive from here. I could have the TR8 tuned and ready within a few weeks.

Keep us informed.
