Ignition switch wiring question

Post by flylear45 »

I know I need an uninterrupted 12v when in run and crank.

My ignition switch has no such position. It is wired so that in run there is power on a (white) wire that feeds the ignition. In crank the white is powered from the switch through a relay that holds the 12v from the crank position to the white wire during cranking, then relaxes back to the 'normal' run mode.

Will the relay function interrupt power to MS while it switches from crank to run? If so, what is the work-around? The only thing I can t5hink is that the time for the relay to de-energize allows for the white to 'see' 12v at the normal position by the time it gets there.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jim

Thanks for the speedy reply, Lance!

I am indeed looking at the coil wire to supply both the MS and the EDIS with power. It's the one powered through the starter relay in the fashion I mention above.

I'm thinking I may use that wire to power another relay that will supply the MS and EDIS through a couple of fuses to keep the draw down through the ignition switch.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't that what the relay board does?

It looks like there is at least one other TR7/8 (Jack) running MS, and he mentions no problems in his posts, so I'm assuming this will be OK.
