Backward Timing

Hope someone out there can help me please.

I have a V3 ms2 with 2.890 firmware. EDIS ignition, peugeot coil pack, Ford VR sensor, NB lambda. Bought in kit form and built by myself. Got a rough base map and tried tuning from there. It is installed onto a peugeot 205gti 1.9, with no obvious timing marks to go by. I locked the engine at 90 degrees, and then attached a triggerwheel to the crank, which i did using the 18 tooth of the 36-1 instead of the 9th. It wll be rolling roaded soon, just ironing out any bugs first.

What i am finding, and its quite strange, is that the advance feels to be backwards, so when you advance (increase the size of the timing number) it seems, by feel, to retard and vice versa. I can't understand what would make this do this except for the software because you can't just cross over the PIP and SAW wires to make this happen.

I have already ruined one starter motor because of this and now i've advanced the timing (in my reality retarded) it starts easier. Before it was a right bugger to start and constantly back firing.

Ok i have not confirmed this with a timing light which i kinda guess i should. I think it is doing this as when i have the engine running and put my foot down it feels and sounds like it is retarding (I have used EDIS before and no what hitting the rev limiter/0 degrees sounds like). If i give it some retard it can pull straight through and sounds fine. I'm stumped and/or stupid.

Sorry for not posting msq file, its on my other laptop i use for tuning. I have it in my head this thing is all backwards at the moment and wonder if anyone else has had this problem.

I have not heard of this before and don't see how this could happen. I would definitely confirm it with a timing light, and if true, we need to see your msq.

Neither have i. I have already done 3 EDIS installs and never had a problem before and really can't see that you can do it physically.

Will post up my ini and msq file when i get them from workshop. I have built the ms2 according to the manual and set it up for EDIS ignition both in hardware and as instructed in software. I also set it up for IAC Stepper just for info.

Will let you know what i find when i have some proper timing marks up on the crankwheel.

Sorted now and working as it should. Nothing wrong with the unit just my wiring.

Ford coil packs aren't wired the same as peugeot ones, doh!!

Check and recheck next time.
