Bosch 516 PWM idle valve, install questions

Post by uffe »

Here we go!

I have just got an 2-wire Bosch idle valve (0 280 140 516) for my motor.

I'm running ms2 v3.57 (from DIYAutoTune, compete kitt) and relayboard.

I have understood that no modification need to be made to the ms2 v 3.57

1. Remove the relay and jumper the relayboard like this:

2 a . jumper the relayboard for providing +12 or ground to the pwm valve
"
* Jumpering the center hole to G supplies a ground when the FIdle is active,
* Jumpering the center hole to V supplies +12 Volts when the FIdle is active,

In general, an ON/OFF FIdle valve can be wired into the Relay Board in one of two ways. It can take 12 volts from the relay board, and be grounded at the solenoid or at any common ground, OR they can be fed 12 volts from a switched supply (separate from the relay board) and then be grounded by the relay on the Relay Board when the DB37 connection causes the relay to close by providing a ground.

The first instance supplies 12 volts when MegaSquirt wants the ON/OFF FIdle activated.

The second instance supplies a ground when the ON/OFF FIdle is activated (mimicking the DB37 pin). If you are designing you own wiring system and using an 'off-the-shelf' vacuum solenoid with two wires for ON/OFF FIdle control, you can do it either way, so long as the solenoid isn't grounded through the case.
"

2 b. on diytune they suggest following ( http://www.DIYAutoTune.com/catalog/pcbv ... p-134.html )
"
Then you will still wire up the hot wire from the idle valve to switched 12v+ (you could use the fuel pump power from the relay board), and wire the negative wire from the idle valve directly to the FIDLE terminal on the relay board. This will allow full control of your PWM idle valve. "

3. connect the pwm valve to FIDLE terminal on the relay board

will it work both ways? controll the pwm valve by +12 or ground? depending on how i jumper the relayboard?

something i have forgot?

The relay board will only ground a PWM IAC valve - it won't do a "high side" setup. With a V3.57 board, you don't need a TIP120.

sweet, i saw that the relayboard was soldered for ground, so all i have to do is to jumper where the relay is :yeah!:

what about the idle valve connector pin-out ? does it mater on what pin i connect power and ground?

Although I'm not 100% sure, it's likely the valve does not have a polarity unless it has a built in diode. If the resistance across the terminals is the same backwards and forwards, it probably doesn't.
