O2 placement

Post by eddieschopshop »

I am running short zoomies with individual baffles. I placed my O2 about 6 inches from the end of the pipe. This puts it around 4-5 inches from the heat line on the pipe. I am questioning the accuracy of my readings.

Keep in mind both with MS and previously on carbs on quick/hard revving or higher rpms I can actually get some pretty good flames out the pipes. Makes it fun at night but not trusting O2 readings.

Any insight on how close is too close to the head? And yes the other problem with this settup is I am only taking readings from one cylinder. But sadly I have no intention of putting full exhaust on the car.

ecs,

In a formula one car, the WB O2 sensors are typically about 6 inches (150 mm) from the open end of the collector, about the same as yours. However, they aren't much concerned about anything about WOT (you may not ber either, of course!).

I don't think that being close to the head should be an issue for you. You might contact the WBO2 manufacturer regarding the flames, although I believe they are only unburnt fuel entering the atmosphere after the pipe and not down inside it. I have had several backfires through the exhaust on my LC-1 and it has not had any problems.
