o2 sensor

Post by pred16 »

I am currently running a narrowband o2 on my 91 16v gti. MS2 v3. At WOT I am running a little lean and getting a little "put" here and there. If I add anymore fuel from where I'm at it sounds like it misses real bad and WOT is useless. I am hopeing to fix all this with a wideban. I just want to make sure this o2 will work and how would I wire it up? The napa part # is bsh 17019. link:http://www.napaautoparts.com/Search/Res ... &Nty=1&N=0. Here is the connecter view and what each pin does. Thx alot for the help!

Pin Circuit Description
1 1620 20WT/BR O2 1/1 PUMP CURRENT
2 1619 20DG O2 1/1 RETURN
3 1622 18RD/BK O2 1/1 HEATER CONTROL RETURN
4 U796 18BK/YL O2 1/1 HEATER CONTROL SUPPLY
5 1621 20VT/WT O2 1/1 PUMP CELL CURRENT TRIM
6 1618 20DG/RD O2 1/1 SIGNAL

The bad news is that you will also need a WB controller to connect to your MS

The MS won't control a WB sensor, so you normally choose the sensor you want to use from a list the WB controller maker suggests. That controller outputs a signal the MS can accept. Tech Edge make a decent one which is available ready built or as a DIY kit.
FWIW, it's not usual to have even a WB unit controlling the mixture to WOT. It will, however, give you a guide as to your actual mixture under those conditions.

how come no one has gotten a MS to control a WB?

Seems like something an A/D converter could do????

drmiller,

It's not that simple, you need to drive the wide band sensor to stoich, then measure the current that it takes to do that, while carefully controlling the heater, etc. See: http://www.megamanual.com/PWC/index.htm and especially: http://www.megamanual.com/PWC/LSU4.htm

a dumb question,

do "you" guys make a wideband solution? I thought I had read you recommended someone else's product.

The info you gave is REALLY interesting. I always wondered how the wideband differed from a regular one, and why you needed a controller.

Thank you very much all for writing and pointing that out. Wow, cool stuff.

drmiller,

Work on the wideband controller has slipped a bit due to the pressure of other projects like the sequencer, but the PWC wideband controller hasn't been forgotten and it will appear in some form in the future (but not imminently).

Hey Lance,

Thank you. If you had a solution, I would buy it to support you!

But there are lots of other cool stuff I would like before that anyway.

Thanks again,
