updating from 2.3 firmware questions

Post by Pagemo »

So it seems i have been out of the tuning picture for about 3 years and firmware has updated quite a bit! I have MS2 v3 running EDIS that was fully tuned and running well on the firmware version 2.33. I recently tried to update to the new code and entered all new tables and files manually but could not seem to get the motor to start and run well. It was very rough and seemed very rich, My question is, how much should i have to change to get back to a stable tune going from 2.33 to 2.89? I copied the tables and think i had everything from the old msq entered corectly. The motor i am trying to run is new and not fully broken in so i am hesitient to make to many major changes. Is there some rule of thumb in changes that will need to be made when swithcing from the old code to the new? I have since reloaded the old firmware and went back to some old files and its running fine again. I would like to update but not sure if it worth the trouble? Should i even bother updating if the old firmware is running good?
I apologize if this is previously discussed i did a search and found little info on updating from code this old.
Thanks

It's like asking should I update from XP to Windows 7 ? If the new code has features you want or fixes problems you are having, then you should. If not, then you can play with trying to get the new code to work. Now that you know you can roll back with no problem, it's not as scary. Here are the steps I follow: make sure you have the ini file, including any custom or settings inis that might be needed. for the version you are upgrading to. After the upgrade and entering your old data, do a save file from MT or TS. Then, if things don't run right, as in your case, compare the saved file with the old file and see what the differences are. You can do this with a file compare or by just going through the menus. Also note what problems you had - are they related to the things that are different. Are there new settings that you don't understand - check the manual for these, and if no info, ask here. The basic tune should be the same for all versions, since we almost always keep all the old features/ modes, but you do have to make sure nothing new has inadvertently been turned on and none of the old settings have been corrupted.

Thats basically what i was thinking, I did look at all of the changes in the newer code and some of the new features do look of interest. I would guess my issue probably came from a new feature that i was not setting correctly or had inadvertently left off, as i was using two lap tops side by side to compare the files and manually transfer the data. Not sure i have used or seen the compare file function i need to do some reaserch there.
I am going to let this motor get a few miles on it then pick a weekend to try the swap again.
Thanks for the info!
