edis 4..rpm irratic on MT

Post by boosted 89 »

Hello

I just got the car started the other day and noticed the rpms In megatune are jumping around from 1500 ish to 0 ..kinda changes to fast to get an accurate rpm..but my autometer gauge shows a consistant rpm. I'm using MSII v3 2.891 code. I have the edis 4 hooked up and the car runs but I'm wondering if this glitch is screwing up the injection also which is causing the rough running.Does the MS take the signal from the edis PIP for RPM signal and injection timing.. does the trigger wheel have to be dead nuts round to keep a constant frequency or will it be good as long as its between 30-60 thou gap while running?

Thanks for the help

You might want to try using the VR input for the EDIS signal - it takes a bit less current to activate that circuit and may be more sensitive.

Hi Matt

So you are saying to connect the VR (+) wire directly to pin 24 as well as having it plugged into the edis. Do I need to change the settings in the basic ignition settings of megatune from edis to ??

Just a question.

In the configurator page on megatune, do I need to set the code variant to Bowling Grippo MSII or do I need to select the MSMedis code variant if I'm running the edis4. It looks as though the rpm drops to zero when my trigger wheel crosses the missing tooth. It cranks at approx 170 rpm then to 0 back up to 170ish then zero, as if the missing tooth is causing the rpm drop off.

Chris

this is definetly a great learning experience, sometimes agravating, sometimes rewarding!

No. You leave the PIP signal, not the VR sensor, wired to the MS. All I am suggesting is to change two internal jumpers on the MS: Jumper TachSelect to VRIN, and TSEL to VROUTINV. Leave everything else exactly as it is.

MSnEDIS is only for a long-abandoned MS1 code variant.

HI all

Well I removed the processor and changed the tach signal setup

removed jumper at tachselect to optoin
jumpered tachselect to vrin
removed jumper at tsel to optoout
jumpered tsel to vroutinv.

retested..same issue.

If you could post a data log of the problem and a copy of your MSQ file, I'll have a look at it.

Sorry Matt for the long delay. I more or less put this project on the backburner for a while and have recently started
back into it. Would it be wise to try and adjust the R56 and R52 pot to try and correct the rpm issue. I've had the car running again and noticed on occasion the rpms have stopped dropping to zero and the signal seems to be clean and consistant. I haven't attempted a datalog yet but I could get you the MSQ file.
Also I'm still having issues with the TPS calibrations..I'm getting 1% thottle value only thoughout the full gas pedal sweep so trying to increase rpm isn't happening.(see thread in Sensors section)"TPS calibrating issues"
Thanks

Try setting R52 and R56 fully counterclockwise.

OK...thanks Matt, I'll try that if the signal becomes irratic again. It seems to have cured itself, even during cranking
I can see a smooth rpm rather than it dropping out every revolution.
