Upgrade of Spark Plug

Post by npk »

Given my conversion from Original Mercedes Distributor(using contact point and pre-resistor to the coil) to EDIS (Bosch 3x2 Wasted Spark Coil pack), should I go for a Colder Spark Plug(Heat range)?

Does wasted spark EDIS generate more heat at the spark plug electrodes(causing pinking)?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance.

I'd guess the extra spark wouldn't make much difference to the plug temp - it's the combustion which is the main source of that.

Does you engine have a later similar version which uses electronic ignition? That might give a guide to a better plug.

The later uses Electronic Ignition but still the SINGLE coil with Distributor and Rotor setup.

(My earlier conversion on a Merc also with similar setup, at running temp, I had to retard (significantly) the ignition advance at WOT to stop the pinking(tropical climate)...this lead me to wonder if I need Colder Plugs).

Thanks.
