Megasquirt Serial/USB Connection problems

I put together my MS2 board myself and I can't get it to connect or be recognized by my computer in miniterminal, port check, or any other program. My serial/usb converter cable is recognized and I have tried assigning various different ports. I am using an HP laptop running Windows 7 (64bit). The serial/usb converter cable passes the loopback test in miniterminal but when I try the loopback test when connecting the board to the computer with pins 12 and 13 shorted together in the 40 pin socket the miniterminal won't even connect. my voltages on the serial cable connection from the board under power are 5.02v on pins 1 and 9. I also show all of the pins in the MS2 chart listed for the CPU 40 pin socket showing 5.02v as well. I checked the voltage regulator on the board and it reads 5.06v on the right pin. So am I correct in assuming that I have the specified amount of volts coming in? What do I check next? I am at a bit of an impass.

Can you try it on a desktop with a discrete serial port? Many of these faults seem to revolve around the USB to serial adaptor. Or more likely the driver for it.

I have been switching back and forth from an old desktop without any internet connection and my laptop with the usb serial adapter. Ive been doing that for weeks with no success, but now it just flashed on the desktop. At least I know the chipset works now and can figure out the rest of it later. I'm going to buy that usb/serial adapter that DIY is selling for the MS module. I had one that was passing the loop back test but evidently MS didn't like it. I think that there is such a thing as Megasquirt gremlins and they live to create random chaos in it.

Now you've successfully loaded the code, have you tried things on the laptop with the old adaptor? Power the MS, plug to laptop, load TS, and see if it can find it.
