Daughtercard not going into bootload mode - stuck at step 40

Post by 67King »

Alright, everything has gone off without a hitch until now. But when I plug in my stim, the LED's do not flash. Instead, the IG dioide illuminates, and stays that way. This is irrespective of it is is plugged into the laptop or not. I tried ignoring this, but I got nowhere from there, either. I'm a bit confused on what all I need to download to my computer (downloader, main v2.891.c, Monitor v2891.abs.s19, megasquirt-II.ini.v2891, settings.ini), but I assume that before I even deal with that, I have an issue with my hardware. Yes, the jumper is in place, shorting the two leads. And again, yes everything checked out fine up until that point.

Apologies in advance if this is covered somewhere. I haven't found anything searching, and I run into an error message "sorry, you can't use the search function now" more often than not when I try to search. I have presumably the latest and greatest stuff, MS2, V3.0PCB.

I just did this, so it does work, although the update function in the downloader didn't work for me.

You need the downloader program from here: http://www.megamanual.com/files/softwar ... _setup.exe
Download Monitor_v2.891.abs.s19 and save on your laptop, this is the firmware you need to download onto MS-II.
Make sure the jumper is installed.
Run the downloader program, select File | Open and select Monitor_v2.891.abs.s19
You should see downloading progress and verification.
If that doesn't work, you might have a communication problem or a hardware problem.

main_v2.891.c is the source code. You only need that if you plan to look at it or modify it.
You will need megasquirt-II.ini.2.891, but that is for Megatune.

Two questions.

1. Just something I have to check - you are using the boot jumper on the daughter card, not the main board, correct?

2. What error message do you get when you attempt to load firmware?

On edit (I'll leave the rest below). I think I misread the manual. I read "The LEDs on the MegaSquirt(TM) will flash very briefly," and interpreted it to mean the stimulator, rather than the PCM (Powertrain Control Module - SAE term). I had not thought that the same steps would be necessary to soemone upgrading from MS-1 to MS-2, I had been assuming that hte manual was for new builds. So since my LED's are not installed on the PCM, yet, they obviously couldn't flash! So I think I'm all good.

Thanks to both of you for the replies, the primary problem I had was understanding all of the downloads, and what was what. I'm a lot better at airflow than data flow!

Matt, yes the jumper is on the daughtercard (as delivered by you - I'm Harry King, putting this on a 944 Turbo, recently bought this stuff from you after your help a couple of weeks ago).

It looks like it worked, but the LED lights on the stim are not doing what the manual says they should. Can you verify that this makes sense?

Here's the log:

Looks like the code loaded - don't worry about what the LEDs did or didn't do when loading code; what they do is not really important.

You're welcome! I'm glad it worked for you.
Now if I can get alpha-N worked out on MS2....
