help with 420a 2g eclipse

Post by bnisson »

I have a ignitor (power transistor) off a 4G63 so i can control my spark, but i have no idea where to begin in making a spark table, dwell settings, etc.

Does anyone know where i can find a table that might work for starters? or can anyone help me in finding useful links on how to tune spark settings? thanks in advance

As a general rule, spark tables are pretty tricky to really get dialed in without a dyno. You generally want to advance the spark until you stop gaining torque at that point in the map, which is often before you start to get any pinging.

bnissan,

There's these:

http://www.megamanual.com/begintuning.htm#spark

http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/configure.htm#make

http://www.megamanual.com/mt28.htm#ti

I personally don't think you need a dyno for this, but you do need some way of judging the changes. This might be 20-60 mph times, drag strip mph, or a sensitive driver can pick out changes fairly easily if they are familiar with the car. Dynos can be misleading because the engine is often much hotter than it would be in normal running, among other effects (don't get me wrong - they are a useful tool - but not the 'be all and end all' of tuning).
