Injectors and oil?

Post by mikec96 »

Been looking to get into a megasquirt for a while, I just haven't made the commitment to pull the trigger on the purchase yet. Before I do I have a couple of questions. First, what (if any) ill effects would there be if a fuel oil pre-mix is ran through injectors on a regular basis. Yes I am entertaining the idea of injecting a 2-stroke. And my second question is more of a sensor question but I suppose I can ask anyway. As far as a crank sensor goes, if I am using a Hall sensor would it be effected by the magnets in the flywheel? What I am thinking of doing is adding a sensor wheel to the outside of the flywheel much like an ABS "tone ring" on a car half shaft but I am concerned that it may be effected by the flywheel magnets.

Just trying to straighten out my info before I get too far in over my head.

Thanks
Mike.

It's no problem. More lubrication for the injectors. :D

You can trigger a Hall sensor with magnets or teeth, but I would be worried if you had both at the same time.

Triggering a MS from the magnets from the stock flywheel magnets probably isn't the best option. There are only 4 of them and they are fairly large and not much room between them... I did check them over though and the magnetic field from the outside of the flywheel is not very strong. It would barely hold up a razor blade to the outside of the flywheel. I wish there was more room between the flywheel and case to fit in a optical sensor and wheel as that is starting to sound like the optimal sensor to use. Is there another option for sensor or a particular type of hall sensor that would be best for where i am looking to install this?

Is there room to fit a trigger wheel to the front of the motor?

Maybe... I have my Yamaha blaster engine apart right now and I am waiting on the head and cylinder to come back from the performance shop, so I have a pile of parts that I can take pictures of to give you an idea of how much room I am looking at and what I am thinking of doing. The only thing I am not 100% sure of is whether or not I need a second trigger? There is a pickup on the ignition plate that the CDI uses to fire the coil, I suppose if it is a single event per revolution type signal (which it should be) then I can probably use that, you think?

Here are a couple of pics of what I am looking at for room. It is hard to tell from the pictures but there is a little over 1/8 of an inch between the flywheel and the case (at the thicker part of the flywheel) the lip on the flywheel is about a 1/16 deep and 1/4 tall. So I should be able to get about a 3/16 tall trigger wheel squeezed in there and have clearance all the way around. I am gonna take a piece of 1/4 thick foam rubber and temporarily glue a piece to the flywheel to see how much room I really have. My only concern at this point is whether or not I can have a series of teeth cut deep enough out of a 3/16 thick ring for a sensor to pick up correctly and cleanly. Should be plenty of room for a sensor though.
