Briggs 206 MicroSquirt - Guidance/Help

Post by TitanMotorsports »

Hey MSefi!

I'm a member of the University of Detroit Mercy's Titan Motorsports Racing Team, and we are in dire need of converting our carb'ed Briggs & Stratton Junior 206 to EFI.
We compete in the Shell Eco-Marathon and the SAE SuperMileage events. So focusing on fuel mileage is the #1 goal here.
Our current vehicle was able to achieve 380mpg with the factory carb setup at the 2015 SAE SuperMileage event. To squeeze every last bit of economy out of this engine, EFI is a must have.
I have a few friends who've run MegaSquirt on their cars before, but those have all been LS Swaped vehicles with usable sensors already installed.

If anyone here has any first hand experience swapping a briggs over to EFI, any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Finding EFI parts this "small" seems to be quite the dilemma.
I have no idea what is best for me to trigger spark utilizing the factory flywheel (worst case I can just run the factory coil and not convert spark)
I'm lost on what components to buy. So any insight for a throttle body, injector, map sensor, o2 sensor (wideband?), throttle position, etc would be greatly appreciated.

About the vehicle...
Being that we compete for fuel mileage, the vehicle travels very slow (15-25mph) and utilizes lots of EOC (Engine Off Coasting)
We burn (start and run the engine) for about a max of 30 seconds at a time. (Do I even need Idle Air Control?)

Needless to say I'm completely lost aside from the fact that I want to run MicroSquirt. I have friends who will help with tuning, so thats not a huge concern.

A lot of the hard parts can be sourced off an injected scooter.

Any idea of the tooth pattern on the stock flywheel?
