EDIS CTO as tach input to MS2

Post by cmcook »

Hello. I've recently finished building an MS2 on a v3 board so I can replace by carbs and MJLJ ignition, but still using the EDIS. I am using a TPS for load on the MJLJ but with the MS I want to use MAP. So I have been trying to log RPM, MAP and TPS using the MS. To this end I have spliced into the PIP signal and the TPS signal and got a vacuum connection to one inlet tract. However, the MJLJ doesn't seem to like sharing the signals and I suspect its the PIP it is mainly objecting to.

So can I safely connect the Clean Tacho Out (Pin 11) on the EDIS 4 to the PIP input I am using on the MS without any modification? This then only risks my tacho not working properly. At this stage I am not trying to control anything, just use the MS so I can log data.

Thanks,
Chris

(I have build the MS2 on the v3 board according to the official instructions and have not made any mods - just chose the options for EDIS spark control as building)

I am going to completely replace I just want to understand the relationship between MAP, TPS and RPM. Then I can generate a safe ignition map based on MAP and RPM to start off with that is 'similar' to my TPS and RPM based ignition map I am running at the moment.

Basically I could do with knowing if I will do any damage if I connect the EDIS tacho out signal to the MS where I currently have the PIP connected to. From the info I have found they are both 12v square waves so it should be ok shouldn't it???

Thanks,
Chris

Well I went into work and borrowed a scope. BOth the PIP and CTO are square waves at approx battery voltage. Although the pulse width of the CTO is a lot shorter than the PIP. SO I moved the pickup to the CTO and it worked fine also leaving the MJLJ working. Unfortunately either my serial cable or the serial port on the laptop is dodgy because it keeps stopping and restarting communications while I am going along - its also dodgy when plugged into MJLJ.
