Hello, I was thinking about my DB37 to computer adapter connectors and their seeming unreliability. Soldering little wires unto the DB37 surely doesn't seem like anything i'd invest my 401K into. However after a while of thinking I decided to put a large amount of glue over all the connectors to strengthen it to massive proportion. I tested the resistance on my ABS cement and nothing showed up so apparently there won't be any electric transfter through the glue correct? I'm wondering what people do exactly to make the connection to the DB37 reliable.

If done correctly the solder joints shouldn't take any stress or movement. All stress and movement should be taken by the rubber collar on the DB37.

You can glue it if you want, but like Tommy say's, if your strain relief is installed properly and you have good solder joints you shouldn't have any problems. I'd be worried about the glue dripping down through the connector, possibly contaminating the sockets.

Some of the Vendors, like DIYAutoTune.com, sell a connector with wires attached which have very reliable crimp connections. I have had good luck with that type of connection, plus all the wires are labeled.

Soldering on the DB37 while hunched over the front fender definitely was not one of the more fun parts of my install but it has been reliable so far. I definitely reccomend using the hea shrink tubing as described.

I have found some AMP pins for DB crimp connectors that are machined instead of stamped. These look like they will do a much nicer job and can be easily soldered for additional support. The Radio Shack stamped crimp on connectors are the worst I have ever used and I would not use them again.

I like the idea of the precrimped cable as stated above but when I was in the market there were none available that were long enough.

Check out item #2 in the link below. It's simple and straightforward to solder up these connectors. It just takes some patience. It's not quite as easy as building a relay board, but it's easy if you plan ahead and take your time.

I found it helped ALOT to tin all of the DB37 leads and all of the wires before starting to solder the wires.

By tin, I mean apply a small amount of solder.
