It requires a 35-40 ohm, 50 Watt resistor in line to the ground? That's huge! If I'm wrong please let me know! I'm having a heck of a time finding one!

How about
2 * 80 ohm 25 watt
or
4 * 160 ohm 12 watt
or
5 * 200 ohm 10 watt

Tied together in paralell

Thanks! I'll have to give that a try! In parallel is side by side right? not tied together one right after the other?

50 Watts can't be the right number. A 35 ohm resistor at 14 volts is only drawing 5.6 Watts. I can't think of any reason to multiply that figure by a factor of 10. I'd go back and double check the wattage and/or the resistence values. One off those is off.
