Questions about creating spark advance table

I apologize in advance if this is somewhat braindead, but all the evidence I've been seeing is contradictory to the notations in spark advance configuration section of the manual.

It states:
Below 100 kPa, we add 0.3° per 1 kPa drop. So for example, if our total spark at 100kPa and 4000 rpm was 36°, the advance at 50 kPa would be:
36° + 0.3° x (100-50) = 51°

and the advance at 45 kPa and 800 rpm would be:
16° + 0.3° x (100-45) = 32.5°
Despite this, almost all the tables I've looked at for spark advance on cars similar to mine (1975 BMW 2002) show the highest advance around 36° or so, regardless of kPa. If I were to follow the rules set out above, I get a 60° advance at 20 kPa... Is that correct? Again, most maps I've been seeing have the advance at a constant 36° from 3500rpm to redline. What am I missing here?

Edit: Running MS-II, PCB V3.0, Code v.2.68 (not certain of that last one, don't have my tuning machine in front of me currently)

Right, thats really what I'm trying to avoid here, especially since this is a fresh build.

That being said, is something like 60 deg advance safe to run, since thats what the manual suggests?
