West Coast MegaMeet 2009 - Oct 10-11th 2009

Post by Bruce Bowling »

I want to announce the USA west-coast MegaMeet 2009 on October 10th and 11th 2009 in Kent, Washington. Its is short notice but we have everything set up (huge thanks to Lance for arranging this for sure). Here are the details on the event:

West Coast MegaMeet 2009 Times/Date/Location:

The 2009 west coast MegaMeet is set for Seattle on Oct 10th and 11th (the Columbus Day weekend, apparently) at the Best Western Plaza by the Green in Kent. They are giving us a rate of $89/night for a single room (regularly $108), including breakfast and internet access, etc.

Best Western Plaza by the Green
24415 Russell Road,
Kent, WA, 98032-1787,
Phone: 253-854-8767 Fax: 253-850-7667
Toll Free Reservations: 800-648-3311 (mention "MegaMeet" by September 15 to get the reduced rate)
http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern ... Code=48106

It's a newly renovated 'smoke-free' hotel on the Riverbend Golf Course, and just 7.8 miles from the SeattleTacoma (SeaTac) International airport (SEA). The hotel offers an airport shuttle service.

The hotel is near Pacific Raceways in Kent (which is at 114th Avenue SE, Kent, WA; 8.5 miles SW of the hotel) - the main motorsports facility in the pacific northwest. On preceding Friday and following Monday at the track Profromance Racing School is offering road course lapping days as well as 'thrill rides' (where an instructor will take you as a passenger around the track at speed in a BMW for $75). On Sunday, starting at 8:00am, there is a drag race 'test and tune' for those that want to do that ($30 plus a $10 'number fee', if the user doesn't have one). So there will be lots of ways to abuse a rental car!

Weekend Schedule:

The schedule for this event is somewhat different from previous events. We have made an effort to include more presetation time, but left Sunday free for 'hands-on' activites. The schedule is set as follows:

FRIDAY PM

- 6:00 - 8:00: People can gather in the meeting room at the hotel for introductions, schedule updates, bench racing, etc.. This will be a 'marshalling point' prior to heading out for dinner/drinks (likely around 7:00 or 8:00). If you don't know where to be, start here!

- 8:00+: Dinner/drinks/socializing will be at Meeker Street Grill (0.2 miles from the hotel): Sports bar atmosphere with dozens of high definition, flat panel televisions.

SATURDAY AM

- Breakfast in hotel (for those staying at hotel). Hotel provides complimentary continental breakfast to guests: Ham/pepper/cheese egg fritatta, vanilla-malted waffles, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, juices, coffees, teas, milk, pastries, bagels, fruit, cereal, toast, and muffins. Many of the attendees/presenters will be at breakfast, for anyone who wants to say hello or pick someone's brain!

- 10:00 Morning Presentations
- 10:00 - 10:15 Welcome/Meet Details/Introductions - LG
- 10:20 - 11:05 Sequencer update - BB/AG
- 11:10 - 11:35 MS-III Update - TBD
- 11:40 - 11:55 GPIO Update - LG

SATURDAY NOON
- Break for lunch 12:00 to 12:55: A basic 'serve-yourself' lunch will be provided in the breakfast room at the hotel for attendees.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON
- 1:00 - 1:45 Future GPIO Applications - LG
- 2:00 - 2:45 Model based EFI - BG
- 3:00 - 3:45 Getting Started with C and the HCS12 - LG
- 4:00+ Questions and answers for all

SATURDAY EVENING
- 7:00+: Dinner/drinks will be at Meeker Street Grill (0.2 miles from the hotel): Sports bar atmosphere with dozens of high definition, flat panel televisions.

SUNDAY

- Breakfast in hotel (for those staying at hotel). Hotel provides complimentary continental breakfast to guests: Ham/pepper/cheese egg fritatta, vanilla-malted waffles, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, juices, coffees, teas, milk, pastries, bagels, fruit, cereal, toast, and muffins.

- Test and Tune, Pacific Raceways (114th Avenue SE, Kent, WA; 8.5 miles SW of the hotel): starting at 8:00am, there is an independently organized drag race 'test and tune' for those that want to do that ($30 plus a $10 number fee, if the user doesn't have one). A number of presenters, expert tuners, and other MegaSquirt users will be checking out the vehicles and answering questions/offering advice if asked.

Other Things To Do While in Seattle:
The Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum - http://www.thunderboats.org - the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in Seattle focuses on powerboat racing, with displays that include vintage hydroplanes, the history of the sport, as well as artifacts and memorabilia related to powerboat racing. The museum also has a section devoted to the restoration of hydroplanes.
Pacififc Science Center - http://www.pacsci.org/ - The Pacific Science Center offers hands-on science and math exhibits where you can play virtual basketball, hang-glide, or throw your fastest pitch to be measured by radar.
Boeing Aircraft Company - - Half an hour's drive north of Seattle on U.S. 526, at Everett, is the factory of the Boeing Aircraft Company, with the largest aircraft construction hangar in the world. On a guided tour (for $54!) visitors are shown the latest high-tech aircraft (including the B 747) under construction. Some 20 min. drive south of Seattle is an older Boeing works where the Flying Fortresses of the Second World War were built. Nearby is the Red Barn in which W.E. Boeing constructed his first aircraft in 1916.
Museum of Flight - http://www.museumofflight.org - To the south of Seattle, at 9404 Marginal Way, is the Museum of Flight, with over three dozen carefully restored historic aircraft, including one built by the Wright brothers.
NFL - http://www.seahawks.com/ - Seattle Seahawks vrs. Jacksonville Jaguars, QWest Stadium, Sunday Oct.11, 1:00 pm
WHL (ice hockey) - Seattle Thunderbirds vrs. Tri-City Americans, ShoWare Center, Sunday Oct.11, 5:05 pm
Pike Place Market - perhaps the most popular “must-see” downtown. Over 100 local farmers sell their produce at this, the oldest continuously operating farmers market in the U.S. As well, more than 200 permanent businesses call the Market their home. Art and craft items are displayed and sold across from prolific displays of fresh flowers in bunches as big as they are affordable.
Space Needle - http://www.spaceneedle.com/ - Seattle’s well known symbol, the Space Needle, is located at Seattle Center. Surrounded by a small amusement park with a ferris wheel and roller coaster, the 605 foot tower that was built for the 1962 world’s fair, offers panoramic views of the city, sound, and mountains. The Space Needle offers a revolving restaurant at 500 feet.
Seattle Aquarium - http://www.seattleaquarium.org - On Pier 59 is the Seattle Aquarium, in whose Underwater Dome a variety of Pacific marine creatures (including sea otters, octopuses and dwarf sharks) can be observed.

Sheesh... these meets are tough for us Midwest guys....

Although, if i still don't have a 'real' job at that point, i just might be up for one last road trip before the snow flies.

Looks like a good lineup.

What is 'Model Based EFI' ?

Curious; will the lectures be recorded and posted in the (hopefully) near future? I'd love to attend but have a conflicted schedule.

In a nutshell, Model-based controls uses physical models for control. It has the potential to replace hundreds of tuning inputs into a few simple variables.

Also, we will film the meet and post...

For sure I will be there, I was out of country for the DIYAutoTune event, and for the last couple MegaMeets around the country for that matter, but living only about 15 miles from Pac raceways, I absolutely will have this one firm on my calendar!

The timing for this couldn't be better....I'm just now in the process of fitting a Cobra style late model EFI intake on my Classic Cougar, yanking off the TBI and Spectre EMSpro and installing a full Ford EEC-IV harness, of course fitted with one of my adaptor boards and wiring for either EMSpro, MS1, or MS2, with evential 36-1 wheel and sequential EFI coupled with LSx coil ignition operation. Stock 68' 302/5.0 motor until next year, with a full forged 331 stroker Edelbrock head motor being fitted next summer. I should easily have the new Cobra EFI and wiring fitted by the West coast Megameet....tuning at the track sounds fun!!

Absolutely look forward to seeing everyone again...especially on Home Turf...

For stuff to do...The plant where the B17's were built is not open to the public. Also, the Boeing "RED Barn" was relocated years ago from the original waterfront location to the Museum of Flight, actually only about 10 minutes south of downtown. The Museum of flight is not to be missed, (located right next to my workplace at Boeing field, Military Flight Center) Also there's the Seattle Center Experience Music Project (EMP), Seattle waterfront, Alki beach if the weather holds...all kinds of things to see and do...

I would recommend if Boeing Everett plant "the largest building in the world by volume" tours are wanted, since they are really popular, book them now....the tours fill up fast.

Thanks to Lance for setting this up!! Sounds like a busy weekend in store for everyone!!

Scott.

Do you have any idea of the vendors that will be there?

I'll be there because I just happen to be picking up some parts for my car at that time.

Best regards,

bundyrum.

Wow, I just stumbled across this announcement. I'll have to get the Nissan tabbed up so I can drive it to the event. That way I can be involved in the show and tell out in the parking lot.

Very interested in the model based stuff, as well as the entry level C and HCs12 presentation. I'am very green with Code writing, all self taught. So far all I've figured out is how to make my fidle turn on whenever ASE is activated, and whenever the cranking bit is set. That helped out a lot on hot starts. I'am looking forward to getting some of the basics explained to me...

Heh, if I'd have known about this a couple weeks ago I might've been able to go. I'd have liked to do the MS3 update in any case.

Right now money's tight (buying a house) but I may try to make it anyway if I can find a decently priced plane ticket and hotel room. Anyone want to share?

Just priced it out, and it'll end up costing me close to $1000 all said and done (plane tickets, car rental, hotel)... I'm afraid that means I probably can't make it, although James and I would be glad to put together some slides for MS3 and go over them remotely.

I wish we had more time to set this up - we could do lots more hands-on stuff! In any case, although I have some schedule conflicts, I'll be there as I can. It'll be nice to see some familiar faces, since I didn't make it to the one at Jerry's, and had such a blast at Spectre at the previous Western MegaMeet. Really looking forward to the latest info and updates. See you there!

Just booked a room for Fri. and Sat. If I were to bring along a spare ECU would there be some one to show me how to modify it for MS2extra with COP?

One of the 1 or 2 ms2extra users that are going would probably be able to help.

I don't think I'll be able to make it or I'd help.

I'll bring my soldering station. :) If you've got the parts, I'll probably be able to lend a hand in the evening. You'll just have to figure out which guy I am.. ;) (Look for the big purple minivan, it'll give me away)
