Bad idle and possible resets on ms 2

Post by Per J »

Hello there

the specs are as follows : MS2 pcb 3.57 v 2.890 running on a stock bmw m20 2.0 Direct coil control with the stock VR sensor and 60-2 trigger wheel. 3 wire bosch Pwm valve for idle control.

im using tunerstudio btw.

My problem are as follows : I simply cant get it to idle below 1000 rpm dosen´t really matter if it´s hot or cold. it´s starts really well but when it drops below 1000 rpm i can see the rpm meter in tunerstudio is going 0-350-0-400-0-345-0-240-0-523-0 and so forth. i have tried alot with the ASE and been checking ground and the altenator have been disconnected. another laptop and so forth. Sometimes the ASE turn on and off on off on off on, feels like it follows the the rpm.

another power supply for ms , none of the things ive tried seem to make it even slightly better.

it runs really great as long as the rpm dosn´t drop below 1000 rpm

Per,

Have you adjusted the VR circuit pots? There's instructions here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/vradjust.htm

If that doesn't help, you might ant to read this: http://www.bgsoflex.com/megameet2008/me ... gnding.pdf

A litlle update.

I did some adjustments on the VR pots but only managed to shut the signal off completely and turn it on again the other pot seems to be ignored completely.

things I thought about :

My ignition coil are located quite close to the wiring at the firewall so i´ll try move it a bit.

The tach input wire runs in the motronic wiring box with other high current cables so even though it´s shielded i´ll try to relocate it.

Just a bit strange it can´t run with the stock motronic wiring locations :( But if MS is a bit more Delicate in terms of wiring solutions i might have to ditch some of those wiring boxes.

Anyway thanks for the input Lance

It seems this noise problem could be a serious Pain to locate

The issue seems to be solved.

Moved the ignition coil and separated the sensor grounds from the rest.

adjusted the VR pots again and the idle is perfect

Thanks Lance :)
