EDIS and starting.

Post by trakkies »

With EDIS 8 and MSII V3, how many revolutions - or parts of a revolution - does the engine need to do when first starting so EDIS knows where the missing tooth is?

On a cold day where the engine cranks quite slowly, I seem to count at least 9 compressions before it fires. On a hot engine it's more difficult to count them, as it cranks so much faster.

Cold starting is very consistent and reliable - just wondered why it takes so much cranking compared to my other car.

Dave,

Are you using the Ford module? I am using the whole setup. (module, coils etc.) Mine doesn't seem to need to turn more than 1 revolution before it finds the missing tooth and starts firing. I have never had any starting problem with EDIS!

Yes it's a complete Ford system. Starting is reliable - just takes more revolutions of the engine than my other car which starts near instantly.

Perhaps I should log a start and see if there's anything obvious.

trakkies,

I've noticed the same thing with my edis8 (complete original Ford setup). It starts and runs just fine but has a prolonged crank cycle that is very consistent.

Thanks. It doesn't really bother me if that's how it is meant to be. I noticed it immediately after changing from a dizzy and first thought it was to do with my settings.

What is the gap between the toothed wheel and the sensor? Some times setting the sensor closer will help.Shoot for something between 0.010 and 0.005 inch.
