Stuck on step 35 in the mega manual...

Post by miander »

Well I am stuck again and am wondering if I cooked my processor. Instead of soldering the 40 pin socket to the board I soldered the CPU instead. I have no clue why but that is what I did. Anyway I spoke to Matt and this seemed to be OK so I continued with the build. I noticed that I could not test (as per the mega manual suggests) due to the cpu being installed.

Anyway I continued on and arrived at step 35 and began to test my work up to this point. I am using a DB9 to serial connector currently and tried it out but when I open Megatune and choose the B&G orignal code I get this:

Controller code version does not match signature in Megatune-I.ini

expected "Ox14" (found in ini file)
received "Ox51" (from controller)

I doubt I cooked the processor cause it does this without the MS hooked up. I have installed my USB to Serial adapter driver but I am guessing it is not happy with the computer.

If I try to open in MS1/extra it does about the same

expected "MSI/extra format 029Y3" (found in ini file)
received "0x53" (from controller)

I am not wanting to move on till I have this resolved. Does it sound like a simple connection issue?

Thanks

Sounds like you're on the wrong COM port. Changing that setting is likely to fix the issue.

If it doesn't, see if something besides MegaTune will communicate with the ECU. To do this check, you'll need the program portcheck.exe, which comes with most MegaTune versions, including the one on the DIYAutoTune.com website. You'll find it in the MegaTune2.25 folder. If you don't have a copy, download it here:

http://www.DIYAutoTune.com/downloads/tu ... tCheck.zip

Power up the Megasquirt and connect it to your PC. You do not need to open the case and should not put the boot jumper in place for this test. Close MegaTune if it's running, and run the portcheck.exe program. When this program starts, it will scan the available COM ports.

If the port it's scanning is not connected to a working Megasquirt, or it's on the wrong speed, it'll say "No connection made." If it's on the right port and right speed, it will give you the version of the Megasquirt firmware that's on the Megasquirt. Note that some Megasquirt firmware versions will look like earlier versions with this test - for example, 029V identifies it as 029Q. This is for backwards compatibility.

If you get a port where it replies with "S" or something else that doesn't look like a firmware version, this port is probably a fake COM port that echos back everything that's typed.

I have done everythig that you said and changing com port does no good. If I run port check it just comes back with:

com3 opened
9600 baud
"s" ing 's'
115200 baud
"s" ing 's'

1 valid port found

I am seriously out of my league on this part of it.

I finally gave up on trying to get my USB to serial to work and dug up an old laptop that has XP and a DB9. Everything is A ok with it and everything shows up as it should. I have good voltage and everything.

I ran the port check and it comes back as

Bowlings & Grippo version 2.xxx or 3.000

It only communicates under the standard software not the plus. I am figuring that I will have to upgrade that later.

Thanks for the help and I am figuring that my usb to serial was a piece of $H!T....
