Ms II edis4 and all the others.

Post by jimpapastathopoylos »

Hello dear forum. :) My name is Jim and i'm from Greece. I think have some experience on mechanics but i know only basic things about edis, electricals ,ecu's and all that useful things.I own a Mercedes 190e 2.0 8v . I decided to try Megasquirt to my car in order to get a better drive experience and reduce fuel consumption. 8) I think i have read mostly all articles about Ms and I decided to buy MS 2 and use EDIS 4 (i think i know how edis works ;) ) :RTFM: . I found only Megasquirt II PCB3.0 but can i use it with edis4 ? :? If yes what must i do with MS board(must i jump anything?) ? :? If i buy also relay board how will i connect the wires to Edis? I must buy wiring harness if i buy relay board? :? Also i have read for lots of diffrent versions of MS 2. Which version will fit best with edis and four simple fuel injectors? :? Sorry for all that questions but this week im reading for 6 hours every day to search for all this i questioned you. I will upload some photos of my babe benz. :D Thienks jim :)

Welcome Jim! :D

There are many experts on this forum, among which I am not, but perhaps I can be of some help.

As you described your project, I would say that MS2 v.3+EDIS4 will meet your needs. I would also point out a couple of things:

I suspect you already know that you will need a 36-1 crank wheel to trigger the EDIS module..... (not mentioned in your post)
There only 2 wires required between MS and EDIS (PIP and SAW) which makes the connection very easy.
You will need a wiring loom, which you can build yourself, or purchase assembled.

Now, for my personal preference, which you are not expected to follow!
I have used the relay board on at least one of my projects and didn't care for it. I found it just as easy to purchase an 8' pre-made loom from DIYAutoTune and wire MS directly to my injectors, ignition etc.

I hope that helps a little.

Any opinion is gold for me. ;) I know that i need trigger wheel ;) I have already plan how to install it to my car. The only thing i dont know about this section is if MS use the same Vr sensor with edis. Also if i use relay board will i need to buy wiring loop (beacause wiring hold up with screws). ? Also thienks for the time you wasted for me :) jim

Thank you Kjones :) I really appreciate your opinion. I know that i need trigger wheel. I have read most of the manuals until i get ms to my hands .... i cant do much. I just dont know silly thing like if i need different vr sensor for ms and edis if i need another o2 sensor ( i have with tree wires) and other details (off topic i think).

Here is a page from the manual that should help with most of your questions about wiring EDIS.

There are not really different versions of MS2 V3 - just different configurations. There is a difference between the V3 and V3.57 - the first uses through hole components so can be home built - the latter surface mount so machine made. The V3 is IMHO a better bet as it is easier to work on.

You could do your conversion in stages - start fuel only, then add EDIS when you're happy with that. Helps keep any problems more manageable.
