Need help troubleshooting - Ford 302 TFI w/ MSD

Post by JMan »

I need some help trying to find a problem with a "no spark" situation...
Back-drop... I was running a twin turbo 302 in a fox body mustang with MS II and MSD and a remote TFI Summit distributor. Car ran great, no problems. I removed the entire drive train some 4 years ago and have had it all in storage while I built a 1962 Ranchero. I'm now at the point of trying to start the engine that has been transplanted in the ranchero. Everything is exactly the same about the motor except I removed the turbos and down-sized the injectors. I did these mods in the mustang and had a NA Tune ready to go before engine removal.

4 years later - I've got everything wired as it was, but can't get any spark from the coil. I tested the MSD, and was able to get spark by grounding the white signal wire. I have double and triple checked all wires for damage during storage etc... but all seems in order. Not having the controller connected to my laptop didn't comfort me, so I had to upgrade to new TunerStudio. Once upgraded, the firmware was outdated in the controller, so that was downloaded and installed as well. I followed the regular startup settings from DIYAutoTune as I had at first since my old tune was lost.

The controller and TunerStudio seems to be working fine, but I can't get spark still...

Any suggestions what I should be looking for? I'm stumped as the vehicle was running great!! I lost my old tunes of course, but now I just want some spark!

Any help is appreciated.

Okay... figured it out! Tracked down a faulty wire... completely missed it during install. Fixed it and got spark, and of course motor fired right up! Now to tune from scratch...
Thanks!
