Stupid question about MSD distributor.

Post by downwardspiral »

I'm a little confused. I'm using MS2 v3 with an MSD distributor and 6a box. My MSD distributor is a ready to run, which uses a magnetic pickup, but does not use the typical purple and green VR wires to connect to the MSD box. It uses a single orange wire for the signal to go either to the negative side of the coil or the white (points) wire on the MSD box. I should be using the hall circuit negative coil configuration; and use the orange wire on pin 24, and send pin 36 to the white wire on the MSD box, right? I'm getting ready to put my car together and want to be sure of this before I try to start it up. :D

Actually I'm thinking it would be the usual hall effect circuit (points with no coil connection). If the MSD's white wire is for points it should be a square wave input. The coil is controlled by the msd box.

Treat the MSD ready to run distributor as if it were a points distributor. The MegaSquirt never "sees" the signal from its sensor directly.
