position of injectors

Post by Yves »

Hello,

I have a crossram ITB manifold for a chevy V8 small block. The injectors now are close to the heads, but they are at a 90° angle into the air stream. Will this cause any problems ?

Thanks

It should run, but you will have alot of puddling happening...especially at lower engine speeds. If you have large injectors, it may be a bit trick to tune cold idle. Well, idle in general.

You may also notice that you accel enrichments will be high. Idealy, you want the injectors facing and spraying right toward the valve tulip. If they are not, you may experiecne accel hick-ups at lower rpms, even with large accel enrichments.
Its ok to have the injectors further back in the runner (up stream) and facing down stream, and occasionally, they maybe mounted close to the head and pointed up stream into the direction of the charge air, but in these cases, they are usually a set of secondary injectors that only come in under higher rpm and heavy loads (boosted apps).

If you can do anything to help point you injectors at he valve, it would help...even if youcan only get 45 degrees, its still better then having them perpendicular to the flow of the charge air.

I saw this guy's solution for a Yamaha V-max. I really don't know if his idea of using a deflector actually makes sense or not. I'm sure there are people here on the forum who could pass judgement on the usefulness of a deflector to correct for a bad injector position (or angle).

As I said, I don't know if this would help, but it's out there so I thought I'd point you toward it.
