Basic Solder question

Post by Datbeardo944 »

Hello everybody, I am just starting to solder the DB9 connector on and I noticed that the solder mask is turning a darker blue and it is "bubbling" for lack of a better term. I tried putting a picture with this post, I think it worked. Any and all criticism is welcome! Thank you so much!

Too much heat, IMO!

What size tip? Variable temp Iron?

Ok so I got curious and found that the heat actually had no affect on the PCB. What I was seeing has been caused by the flux!
Thank you so much Ken!

Are you using lead free solder? If so, don't. It melts at a higher temperature then leaded. Buy a reel of 0.8mm diameter 60/40 leaded multicore from a proper electronics supplier. Most common multicore solder is larger in diameter than the the ideal for this sort of job.
