alternate edis coil packs

Post by cwest »

As the header suggests does anybody know of a proven alternate that uses a standard type of plug connector at the coil instead of the specific ford one as they are impossible to get here and i need to reconfig my ign leads

Most waste-spark coils will work. I know Chrysler family coils do.

Will the standard two-post GM ones work? Is there any documentation on how to do it you can point me to?
Karl

You can try this

Just solder the wires to the coil pack and then put a few thick coats of electrical "tape" paint on it.

See if this helps: http://www.teglerizer.com/fi/megasquirt ... odule.html
In this case he is firing the coils with VB921's instead of EDIS, but removing the GM guts would be similar.

you can use gm coils for a Ford EDIS module. to do so, get the base however they mount to. remove the internal computer that is under the coils (I did this with a V8 with a caddy northstar coil pack) you then should have little tabs sticking out from under the plastic. these are the connections to MOST of the various terminals both plugs and coil packs

with the northstar "mount", one on each of the coils are all internally jumpered together. these will get 12 volts from ignition. you now just have to wire to the other tab to the ground terminals that come from the ford module.

draw a picture of what the underside looks like and draw the plug terminals. Test them for continuity and mark what goes where.

it just takes some thinking but it's really easy to do. however the northstar has a 2 plug connector with larger awg wires coming into it. on mine they were somehow jumpered together. and caused me to blow the fuse i ran to the EDIS module.
