Continuing challenges with cold starts

Post by grover »

I've been trying to get my car to start more reliably after sitting over night or for several hours. I've increased significantly after the warm-up enrichment as well as the afterstart enrichment, but the place I'm struggling the most is right at the point that it transitions from cranking to the enrichment cycles. When looking at my Excel datalogs, I can see that the RPM's, amongst other things, go to zero. At times I'm able to stab the throttle at just the right time and save it, but other times it will just stall. Is it normal for it to zero at this point? Am I missing something with cranking pulse widths or prime pulse perhaps? It's possibly worth noting that I have no form of idle control like a stepper motor. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Is this happening right after you crank the car and it initially fires? If so are you sure you have a power source that is live during 'Run' and 'Crank?'

Edit: Oh...I see. What kind of injectors are you using? WHat kind of ingtion system are you using?

Edit number 2: I can't view your msg, not MT on this computer. ...WHat is the error tollarence set to in the ingtion settings....yo ushould have 3 levels...Cranking, afterstart, and running. What is the after start number?
MS2 v3.0 pcb, 2.891 firmware w/ flex fuel mod
Ford eDIS-4
1000cc injectors
Saturn 1.9L
....lots of boost with a 50 shot of anti-lag.

Thanks for the input. I'm using 24lb/hr low impedence Bosch injectors. As for the ignition system, I'm using EDIS with the Escort VR sensor and coil pack. The settings for error tolerance (is this what is labeled as Next Pulse Tolerance, or is this something else?) are as follows: Cranking: 50%, After start: 70%, Running: 25%. I'm unclear on what these settings are, I believe these were just the baseline. Could you educate me by chance? Thanks again.

I am also in the dark on these, and can't seem to find a clear explanation anywhere. Anyone?
