Stock Tach

Post by skyy406 »

Ive tried searching and I have a general idea how to get my stock tach to work via Megasquirt. My question is how do I wire it up exactly?

In Tunerstudio under Outport port settings there is a list on the left of stuff I can configure. My issue is that the Outport port setting choices do not correspond with the spare pins on my Megasquirt that I can use to drive the tach.

Here's a screenshot of Tunerstudio:

And here's a scan of my wiring diagram. I am using a 4 wire stepper so I cannot use those IAC or Digital Outputs because they are being used. Pins 3-4-5-6 on the wiring diagram is just say "spare ports" or 1/CanH or 2/CanL. What one port in tunerstudio, and one wire on the diagram correspond to each other? And how do I configure it to drive the tach?

I always drive mine from pin 36 of the DB37. (the one labeled Ignition Output on your schematic)

How was the tach driven originally? If from the coil negative, this signal is larger than MS can deliver direct from a spare port.
It's more usual to derive the tach output from the ignition - what are you using?

Bought an Autometer Tach Adapter. Wired it with the instructions provided. Basically the power wire from the EDIS module TO the Coil is sent to the tach adapter instead and then there is a wire coming out of the tach adapter that then goes to the coil providing power.

Worked like a charm.
