Re: tuning cold start question

Yup, it is either too rich or too lean.

If you hit the throttle, and it dies, USUALLY it is a touch lean.

when it is too rich, black smoke out the exhaust, gurgly motor.

So, try to richen it up. If it gets worse, lean it out.

Re: gasahol afr, startup afr, decel afr

cast iron does not transfer heat like a more modern aluminum one.

and with the low RPM, your air velocity is going to be pretty slow.

Where does the engine get its air for the engine? If you are not worried about power, you could try using some warm air off the back of the radiator or off the ...

does it have cross over heat?

Re: V-Twin Development?

megasquirt 2. I'd contact the folks at diy auto, one of the megasquirt vendors.

it should do your fuel and spark.

microsquirt is built for motorcycles and the like, but I don't think you can build it yourself. I might be wrong though.

Re: ecort rs2300 turbo (managment needed)

i contacted the fellers at diy auto, one of the vendors who sells the megasquirt, and have been pretty happy.

my guess is megasquirt 2, or possibly microsquirt, depending on specifics. DIY can help you figure it out.

Your setup is pretty standard, and it comes down to how much you want to solder ...

Re: Fuel cutting out while cruising

is the computer resetting somehow? I have read about this in the manual where if your wiring is weird, the computer could reset if certain things happen.

Maybe triple check your grounds, do some reading in the megamanual about looking at the timer which shows how long the computer has been on.

Re: injectors directly facing manifold runner floor

pretty typical.
should run just fine.

on really cold startup, if you compare to another identical engine with injectors pointed differently, you MIGHT be burning 5 percent more fuel when it is very cold for a very short period of time, and it MIGHT idle slightly rougher when very cold.

You can turn the fuel off on decel if RPM is above a certain level.

If Matt says otherwise, Matt is correct and I am wrong.

Re: 120 lb/hr injectors, E85, duty cycle

duty cycle from megatune should be real duty cycle.

ethanol is weird stuff. Theory says if you throw more and more ethanol fuel at an engine, it should just make more and more power, and run obnoxiously rich still making more and more power.

do you have a wide band 02 sensor on it?

one idea ...

4 injectors?

one throttle plate?

Intercooler?

does it try to go, then fade off, or does it just cough or stumble? If you run the engine generally richer, does it get better?

Re: help me tune my startup

just for grins, when you are trying to start the car, do you give it a little throttle?

it seems to me if an engine was cold, and couldn't get enough air, it is going to have a tough time getting going.

And I noticed you didn't have a fast idle air circuit.

in other words, are the rods every 120 degrees, or a pair together, and one 180 off?

theory is high vacuum is high vacuum, turbo or non turbo.

TDC for starting.

Whatever the engine likes for idle.

is this a VW based engine? what compression? what cam shaft? how much fly wheel?

i read on this list the advice to tune the engine for highest vacuum at idle. I have been thinking ...

Re: Throttle Body size

absolutely throttle response can be caused by the manifold being too large.

Is the 6.5 liters including the runners, or just the main body of the manifold?

Is there any other restrictions between the atmosphere and the manifold besides the throttle body?

Basically, when you open the throttle ...

Re: Megasquirt and A/C

AC can be REALLY simple, or stupidly complicated.

ultimately, to make the AC come on, all you really have to do is energize the compressor clutch with 12 volts.

You might cycle that clutch to keep the inner evaporator (core under the dash which makes the air cold) above a certain temperature so ...

Re: Multipoint injection on 3 cyl two stroke.

absolutely you can have a wide powerband. but you still have to have SOME idea of what RPM you are after.

For instance, a WIDE powerband is 3000 rpm to 5500 rpm. Or 2200 rpm to 4000 rpm. When you buld the pipe, you try to get as much bottom end as possible, but the top Rpm is the absolute upper ...

Re: Multipoint injection on 3 cyl two stroke.

need some idea of rpm to build a pipe.

4000 rpm? 6000 rpm? I would guess somewhere in there.

The higher the RPM, the shorter the pipe. a 4000 rpm pipe is probably 4 or 5 feet long or more, as a guess. Have to do some math to know for sure.

also, a triple REALLY likes triple pipes. one single ...

it does not matter where in the cycle.

By the time the air goes past the reeds, into the crankcase, churned by the crankshaft, up through the transfers, and into the cylinder, it is well mixed.

There have been some games played with semi-direct, where the injectors are firing through the ...

it is not just the ethanol. In the past 3 years any gasoline you buy has had problems with extremely short shelf life.

This includes the non-ethanol stuff.

Stabil is your friend.
